Our focus on stone provides a complete offering of conference, dining and occasional table options. Size and shape can be customized or selected from our many standard items offered in eight granites and two marbles (see below). Also provided below are some key tips when considering stone tabletops with an information link to technical details and care/maintenance recommendations.
Stone is a creation of nature. Like so many natural formations, every slab is unique and matchless. The luster, hardness, colours and variations, are all indications of the stone’s mineral composition and place of origin. This unique blend of characteristics is what makes natural stone a one of a kind surface.
Although we usually think of stone as “hard”, it is a porous material and has varying degrees of porosity depending on the type of stone. Highly acidic substances such as orange juice, coffee and wine will etch stone and leave a dull mark. Acid resistant stones such as most granite, slate and sandstone will not etch.
What to Do When a Spill Occurs
No matter how careful you are, spills are going to happen. A quick response and the right solutions can keep spill from damaging your stone or degrading the sealer.
Etch Marks
Highly acidic substances such as orange juice, coffee, vinegar, wine, tomato products, mustard and many soft drinks will etch most marble, limestone and travertine. Sealing allows you time to wipe up a spill, but it cannot stop the chemical reaction that may leave a dull mark.
For Food Spills
Scoop up the food and blot with a dry, white cloth. Spray the area with a neutral stone cleaner and wipe off excess with a clean cloth.
Liquid Spills
Blot away the excess with a clean, dry, white cloth. Spray the area with a neutral stone cleaner and wipe off excess with a clean cloth.
Oily Stains
If you identify the stain as having an oil base (from foods like salad, cooking oils, butter or some cosmetics) you may be able to remove the stain using a poultice, which can pick up the stain from deep within the stone.
Prismatique uses Dupont “Bullet Proof” sealer as the standard sealer on all our tables. At an upcharge, Prismatique can apply other Dupont Sealers. Please use the following link for additional maintenance tips and Dupont products:
